In this work Dean Maassen declare an aerosol pump, a trivial, machine made work tool, to be a portrait of the vehicle varnisher G.
The titling of the object irritates the viewer, because the person portrayed is not represented by a photograph as usual. The viewer is confronted with the question, whether an object can represent a human individual.
An understanding of this work is only possible by the examination of the remaining works about G. That way the “Portrait of G“ is moved to a superior context - it is therefore the core of the series about G.
